AKATA (Ah-Kah-Tah; "KATA" for short), is a visual artist based out of New York City, NY.
With a focus in illustration and design, KATA's work is fluid by nature. From full-scale illustrations, to clothing designs, to graphic narrative, AKATA's creative output can and has taken shape within a multitude of arenas. Much of his work currently finds a home within digital medium(s).
A vital practice of writing and narrative construction underpins all of KATA's core creative philosophies, allowing for an abstract dialogue between the artist himself, the world, and the work to take shape in a natural manner. Many if not all projects emerge from a (typically) private array of poems, notes/journal entries, personal design briefs, and conversations with peers. These source materials tether each project as an important milestone in the artist's life, linked immutably to his development through not only the work itself, but also through all of the research and notation that goes into its production.
AKATA has expressed that a deep love for independent, personal creation will always serve as the heart of his pursuits and ambitions. Additionally, however, the young artist expresses passionate interest in leaving an indelible mark on the comic, manga, fashion, and music industries -- all of which serve as profound sources of inspiration for his work.
Wherever KATA finds himself -- whether that be as a member of a large team or as an independent contractor -- the artist is deeply driven to distilling, instilling, and translating meaning and story through his contributions. With any chance given, it is dived into in full.
